Welcome back to the waitlist for my upcoming book, The Quarter-Life Catalyst.
Here’s what’s new:
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been trying to show up more online. Talking to a camera, sharing thoughts and putting ideas out there. Honestly, it has been a lot of fun, but at the same time it has been pretty uncomfortable, forced at times and often quite embarrassing.
If you haven’t seen me meditating in front of the camera, you should go check it out - it definitely checks the cringe box.
But I did come across a quote at work the other day that I want to share:
“If you’re not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you’ve launched too late.”
Hoffman’s point is basically that most of us wait too long before putting anything out into the world. We get caught up trying to make it polished, trying to make it perfect, when really the most useful part only happens after it’s out there and people actually see it.
That’s when you learn. That’s when you see what works and what doesn’t. And only then can you actually improve it.
So waiting until it’s perfect doesn’t really help. If anything, it just slows everything down.
Right now, what I’m posting on Instagram, what I’m writing here, even my book… it’s all a first version. And yeah, parts of it make me cringe. But I think that’s kind of the point.
Because the more I put my ideas out there, the more feedback I get. And the more feedback I get, the quicker those ideas start to improve and actually turn into something real.
So please, give me any feedback at anytime, I love hearing from you guys. And if you’re umming and ahhing about something of your own. Give yourself permission to be cringe. I feel a lot better about my cringe content after hearing Hoffman’s quote ;).
For those of you who are new here, there’s a good chance you came from Instagram. So welcome. This is where I slow things down a bit. Where I think more deeply, write more honestly, and try to make sense of everything I’m learning along the way.
Quick life update while I’m here:
The second draft of the book is moving… just a bit slower than I expected. I’ve been putting more time into building out Instagram, and I’ve also started a new job, which I’m really enjoying. Life feels pretty full at the moment.
I also got out for an epic hike up Mt Barney last weekend (check it out below), and I’m heading to New Zealand this weekend for the Christchurch Marathon.
Exciting times ahead!
